An artist in the German ESC preliminary decision will look familiar to jungle camp fans and one is a celebrity scion. Those are the acts.

At a press conference on Thursday morning (February 10th), the six acts and their songs that will be fighting for the ticket to Turin at the German ESC preliminary round “Germany 12 Points” on March 4th were presented. There are three surprises.

These are the acts for the preliminary round

Emily Roberts

The British-German musician Emily Roberts (28) lives in Berlin and throws her song “Soap” in the ring. She makes “happy songs” and “pure pop music,” says the self-confident and charismatic artist, who tours with James Blunt (47) and already has a lot of live experience. Jungle camp fans know her voice, because her song “In This Together” was the title song of the 14th season of the RTL show “I’m a Star – Get Me Out of Here!” in 2020.

Felicia Lu

Candidate Felicia Lu (26) is also surprising. She took part in the German preliminary round in 2017. This time, the Viennese-by-choice performs her song “Anxiety”. “I’ve made music my profession in the meantime,” says the passionate full-blooded musician. She shot and edited the video clip for her new song alone because she tested positive for the corona virus shortly before the official shoot.

Malik Harris

Malik Harris (24) from Landsberg am Lech would like to go to Turin with his rap song “Rockstars”. He is the son of moderator Ricky Harris (59). Before deciding on music, Malik wanted to be a professional soccer player. He wasn’t good enough, as he admits with a laugh, fortunately things are different musically.

Eros Atomos

A newcomer is Eros Atomos (20) from Flensburg, who accompanies his “lively, fresh and encouraging” song “Alive” with the guitar. The special thing: He also drums on the instrument – this allowed him to stand out from his eleven siblings.

Maël & Jonas

The Koblenz duo Maël & Jonas also want to go to the ESC in Turin. Their song “I swear to god” is “energetic, about making amends and emotional,” as the two entertaining and very different musicians explain with amusement.

Nico Suave & Team love

A band consisting of four musicians from Hamburg and Berlin also made it into the selection: Nico Suave & Team Liebe want to assert themselves with “Hallo Welt”. The artists rely on “optimism, authenticity and positive thinking”.

What’s next?

And this is how the completely new selection process for the German ESC representative continues:

February 28th: Online voting

After the pre-selection by the expert jury, it is the audience’s turn to vote for the music act online on February 28th. From then on, users can choose their favorite acts from the online pages of the nine ARD pop waves.

March 4: Decision at the “big ARD ESC day”

The decision will be made in the same week as part of the “big ARD ESC day” on March 4th. On this day, ARD-Popwellen will play the songs in question throughout the day and call on their listeners to vote by phone, SMS or online.

In the evening, the ESC selection will be shown on television for the first time. All third-party ARD programs will broadcast the program “Germany 12 Points – the German ESC preliminary decision” live at 8:15 p.m. from Berlin. At the same time, the program can be seen on eurovision.de and in the ARD media library. In the show, the candidates present their songs on stage. It can be tuned further.

At the end of the evening, presenter Barbara Schöneberger (47) will present the artist or band with the most voting points. She, he or the band will then represent Germany at the final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Turin.

May 10, 12 and 14: Eurovision Song Contest

The final of the upcoming ESC will take place on May 14, 2022 from 9 p.m. in Turin, Italy. The two semi-finals are scheduled for May 10 and 12 at 9 p.m.
