Big shock at Estavana Polman. The Dutch handball player and friend of Rafael van der Vaart was fired by her team, the Danish first division team Esbjerg – by email.
Nobody expected that. After nine years of successful cooperation, the employment relationship between Estavana Polman, 29, and the Danish handball club Team Esbjerg ended – but anything but voluntarily. The Dutch national handball player has to leave the Danish top club, although her contract would not have expired until next year. The girlfriend of ex-soccer professional Rafael Van der Vaart, 39, found out about her termination by email.

The 29-year-old said in an official statement that she wanted to set up a meeting with the club’s executives and her agent, but in return received an email resigning. In this she is said to have been informed that the joint cooperation has ended with immediate effect. The end of a week-long argument between the two parties, which even went to the labor court.

“I was hoping that we would find a solution so that I could continue to contribute to the club’s success,” explained the Dutchwoman. She didn’t expect her time in Esbjerg to end like this. “After nine years in the team, this is a very sad day for me. I’ve been trying for a long time to resolve the issues that existed between the club, the coach and myself,” said Estavana Polman.
Esbjerg coach Jesper Jensen also spoke to the newspaper JydskeVestkysten on the subject. He regrets the loss of the world-class player. “But it’s also good that a line has finally been drawn, because the topic has taken up a lot of space,” explains Jesper Jensen.
She says goodbye to fans via video message
With emotional words, the handball player also says goodbye to fans, helpers and acquaintances from Esbjerg. “I just want to say thank you… It was wonderful,” the 29-year-old wrote on Instagram. “I came here as a young girl and leave as a grown girl.” In addition, she supplements her video message with the words: “I want you to know that there is a very special place in my heart – take care of yourselves”.
