Esteban Olivero, French trail running hopeful, died in a mountain accident

French trail running hopeful, Esteban Olivero, died on Saturday December 23, at the age of 22, in a mountain accident in the Ecrins massif. The young athlete suffered a fatal fall while returning from the ski touring ascent to the summit of La Blanche, in the Hautes-Alpes, the French Athletics Federation (FFA) said on its website on Monday.

“Today the entire trail running community in France and elsewhere is mourning the death of an athlete highly esteemed by his peers”, writes the Federation which presents its condolences to the family of the young athlete.

Esteban Olivero, originally from Var, had obtained promising results in mountain running in the youth categories. This year he won the French Under-23 Championship.

He was also part of the excellence group of the French Federation of Alpine and Mountain Clubs. “Esteban will leave a great memory. A runner recognized for his talent during full effort but also during moments after the race, his smile and his infectious good humor made him a much appreciated comrade”adds the FFA editorial staff.
