Estimate instead of measuring – customers angry: Teslas have problems parking

Whether out of thrift or a love of innovation: Tesla likes to ignore proven technology and go its own way. With the parking sensors on its entry-level models, that might not have been a good idea.

The parking sensors on the Tesla Models Y and 3 are causing problems. This was already evident in the “Krone” test, but it was obviously not an isolated case: According to a report in the magazine “Auto Motor und Sport”, customer complaints about unreliable distance measurement are increasing. In contrast to most other car manufacturers, the Californians do not use ultrasound modules for the sensors, but instead determine the distance to obstacles using a camera and image recognition software. This does not work with sufficient precision; However, if there is any doubt about parking damage, the drivers will remain stuck. The report quotes Rosenheim lawyer Christoph Lindner, who knows the problem from his clients and complains about the manufacturer’s lack of goodwill. The lawyer has collected other common reasons for complaints. This also includes rust on the wishbones, primer shimmering through the paint, incorrectly glued and therefore leaky windows, inaccurate gap dimensions and errors in the assistance systems.
