Ethereum: Coinbase will soon launch the Base mainnet, its Layer 2

Base in the starting blocks. Last February, the giant Coinbase announced its plan to layer 2 on Ethereum. Entitled Basethis one uses Optimism technology via the OP technology stack. After passing the audits, Coinbase Layer 2 has never been closer to a launch on the mainnet.

Coinbase’s L2 Base passes audits with flying colors

On June 28, the teams of Base announced to have finalized the code audit phase of its layer 2. To test its contracts, Coinbase turned to the community.

Thus, the latter appealed to the community of developers via a public smart contract audit competition in partnership with Code4rena. In total, more than 100 security researchers participated in the program.

“This included OP node code, EVM equivalence vulnerabilities, bridge vulnerabilities, or generic smart contract issues. »

Alongside this community audit, two additional audits were carried out by the companies spearbit And sherlock.

In addition, Coinbase does not skimp on security. Thus, the Base teams have developed PessimismA open source monitoring tool which aims to inform the developers of any anomaly that may occur in the protocol.

Base: imminent launch on the Coinbase mainnet

Before launching its solution on the mainnet, Base wants to be sure that it has left no gray areas. Therefore, the launch on the mainnet is conditioned by 5 steps.

In practice, Base has just successfully validated the 4th stage of its launch through the validation of audits. As explained in a second tweet:

Base announces that it is at stage 4/5 of its launch – Source: Twitter.

“In case you are following developments, with the completion of these audits, we have now met ⅘ of our criteria for the mainnet launch. »

Now there is only one criterion left to meet before launching on the mainnet. In practice, this is the ” testnet stability “.

For its part, Optimism, the solution used by Base, is also getting a makeover. Thus, the teams announced a name change from L2 Optimism to OP Mainnet. This helps to distinguish between the Optimism chain and the OP Stack technology stack.
