Ethereum (ETH) merge: search volume hits all-time high

In what many Ethereum fans would call the event of the year, Ethereum is transitioning to Proof of Stake (PoS). Accordingly, the last testnet before the merger, the merging of the current blockchain with the so-called PoS beacon chain, only recently went live. This is to ensure that the transition runs smoothly.

While the merger is scheduled to take place in 2022, the general feeling about the changeover is already apparent Google trending away. Searches for “Ethereum Merge” reached a new all-time high in the last week.

At the beginning of March, the search term was only 22 percent as popular. Google Trends data always shows the ratio of certain search terms to the total number of search queries per week.

There also seems to be a bullish mood among Ethereum fans on the crypto exchanges: the DeFi top dog is in a daily comparison with a plus of more than 4 percent.

Ethereum Merge in country comparison

There are always regional differences. While Canada in particular has a high proportion of Ethereum search queries in the general search volume, some regions are colored grey. This means that either there is not enough data, or the general search volume in the country is very low.

The US and Australia also seem quite interested in the merge. In South America, Argentina is probably the leader when it comes to Ethereum. In Europe, the United Kingdom is in first place.

If you look at the situation in Germany, you will see that a very similar picture emerges. This puts the Federal Republic in second place in terms of Ethereum search volume in Europe.

Although Google does not publish absolute numbers of search requests for specific terms, it can be assumed that the numbers in Germany are rather low.

For example, the chart above shows that the ratio of searches for “Ethereum Merge” to total search volume was zero. It was also not possible to split the data into the different federal states of Germany. There is not enough data on this, according to Google Trends.
