Ethereum: Starknet deploys Quantum Leap, the update that will change layer 2

Starknet goes to another level. Starknet is a second layer solution ofEthereum, rollup type. Developed by the company StarkWare, it is betting on zk-Rollups to improve the scalability of Ethereum. Launched in November 2022 on the mainnet, the network is about to experience a major update.

Quantum Leap: the update scheduled for July 13

The Starknet protocol is in the midst of active development. Frequently, new updates come to add functionalities or to evolve the mechanisms of the network.

On July 6, Starknet teams announced the deployment of V0.12.0 protocol on the testnet. baptized “Quantum Leap”this update aims to increase considerably the number of transactions per second on the network. In practice, this performance boost was made possible by Starknet’s Sequencer implementation in the Rust programming language.

On the one hand, theCairo-rs integration, a Cairo runner written in Rust and developed by LambdaClass, drastically improves the execution of Cairo contracts. On the other hand, theintroduction of Blockifier, a block execution logic based on Rust, enables throughput improvements. Finally, the inclusion of Papyrusa local storage solution, contributed to the efficient management of the local state of the sequencer.

“With the integration of Cairo-rs and the introduction of the Magic Blockifier – the most powerful block execution logic based on Rust – we were able to optimize transaction execution time while reducing latency and releasing network traffic congestion. »

StarkWare

In effect, this should allow the network to process several hundred transactions per second. According to the information reported by our colleagues from TheBlock, this update could be published on the mainnet on July 13 next.

The next developments planned by StarkWare

While V0.12.0 is in testing, StarkWare teams and independent Starknet developers are already working on the next version. This time, the V0.12.1 will focus on improving theuser experience as well as on the transaction reliability.

This will include another major development: the inclusion of failed transactions in blocks.

“Until now, failed transactions were not included in the block. So the sequencer couldn’t charge a fee and advance the nonce for them. This created UI issues for developers. »

StarkWare

In parallel, other developments are carried out on Starknet. For example, Kakarotthe first modular zkEVM in the Starknet ecosystem completed a pre-seed fundraiser, allowing him to reach a $15 million valuation.
