The Auto and Motorcycle Media Association (AM-AM) brings together the majority of automotive brands and media in France. The association recently unveiled the electric and hybrid winners of its 2022 eTrophies!

The eTrophies jury is made up of 20 journalists working for print, radio, TV or web newsrooms specializing in the automobile. It is moreover as a member of the association that our journalist, David Nogueira, was invited to be part of this jury.

Five great families… and a few absent ones

For this first edition of the eTrophies, the AM-AM brought together 23 100% electric and rechargeable hybrid models. In 48 hours, these passed through the hands of experts to judge their overall performance. For many of them, it was above all a question of rediscovering cars that had already been tested elsewhere, but a reminder shot doesn’t hurt.

The models in competition were grouped into five categories: family touring, compact touring, SUV, GT and city cars. The winners in each category are as follows:

As you will have quickly noticed, this selection lacks very important brands on the market – starting with Tesla, but let’s also mention Mercedes, Kia or Hyundai. These last two had however, with the Ioniq 5 and EV6 (and others!) excellent competitors. We were also able to talk to the spokespersons of the brands who kicked in touch for this first edition for various reasons, but who are already ready for a 2023 edition. .

The first of the categories therefore included seven models which were tested over a course of approximately 380 km. Traffic in town, on motorways and other portions of the secondary network were on the test program: reach Saran (on the outskirts of Orléans), and more specifically the Ionity charging stations to take stock of the autonomy and capacities of charging 100% electric models.

The members of the jury had to vote according to several criteria such as life on board, the multimedia system, driving pleasure or even charging management and autonomy. The loading capacities of the models were thus evaluated, and it was an opportunity to note that the Skoda Superb iV remains a benchmark among PHEVs. The Mégane E-Tech and the MG5 station wagon win the 100% electric category.

After deliberation, it was the BMW i4 that won the prize for best family touring car, by a very, very short head on the Audi A8 in its limousine version which also offers incredible performance, but at what price!

The Renault Megane E-Tech is a hit

It’s a full box for Renault, which won three prizes for its Mégane E-Tech. The “Renaulution” is underway and the various journalists on site have not missed it. The 100% electric model wins the prize for the best compact road car, the best interior, as well as that of the favorite of all the members of the AM-AM.

For the rest, the AM-AM rewarded the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo GTS for the best electric GT, but also for the best electric economy. We grant you, “economy” and “Porsche” are contradictory: in fact, we are not talking here about financial savings but about the quality of life with the electric vehicle. And on the subject, the Porsche Taycan offers one of the best route planner, very good efficiency, crazy performance and an 800 volt network which allows it to be among the fastest to recharge with a maximum power of 350 kW (270 real kW).

Finally, below is the list of other prizes awarded:

  • eTrophy for best SUV: Ford Mustang Mach E Extended range
  • eTrophy for the best GT PHEV: Peugeot 508 SW PSE
  • eTrophy for best city car: Mazda MX30
  • eTrophy for best PHEV economy: Suzuki Across
  • Alternative Energy eTrophy: Toyota Mirai FuelCell

Appointment is made for 2023, with ever more participants… and probably not confined to the automotive sector. As Nicolas Heidet, Vice-President of AM-AM, told us, the association wants to extend its event to electric utility vehicles, but also to electric scooters and motorcycles.
