BRUSSELS (Reuters) – The European Commission said on Monday it was checking whether an Apple proposal fully meets its order to allow Swedish group Spotify and other music streaming services to inform users of payment options outside of its App Store.

In March, the EU imposed a fine of 1.84 billion euros on the Apple brand for non-compliance with community competition rules, the iPhone manufacturer having abused, according to Brussels, its dominant position on the market for music streaming distribution through the App Store.

The American group faces antitrust proceedings and additional fines if its proposal, announced last Friday, does not satisfy the European competition authority.

Apple has announced that it will allow music streaming apps on its App Store in Europe to include a link to an offer on their own website.

“We are currently assessing whether Apple has fully complied with the decision,” a Commission spokesperson said on Monday.

“In general, if the Commission suspects that a decision adopted is not respected, it sends the company concerned a statement of objections,” he said.
