LONDON (Reuters) – Nearly 200,000 British homes were still without power on Saturday after storm Eunice left 1.4 million homes in darkness the day before, authorities said.

Eunice, which formed in the central Atlantic, is accompanied by winds of up to 196 km/h in Great Britain, which caused extensive damage and killed three people.

At least six additional deaths have been reported in Ireland, Belgium and the Netherlands.

In Britain, Kwasi Kwarteng, the energy minister, said power had been restored to 1.2 million homes, but 190,000 were still without it.

In France, five departments were placed on orange vigilance on Friday for a “very strong” winter storm that could cause strong winds and an episode of waves-submersion: Manche, Seine-Maritime, Somme, Pas-de-Calais and the North.
