Euro zone: Further decline in economic sentiment with the war in Ukraine

BRUSSELS, May 2 (Reuters) – The economic sentiment index in the euro zone continued to deteriorate in April, again due to spillovers from the war in Ukraine and soaring prices, official data showed on Monday.

The index published by the European Commission fell to 105 from 106.7 (revised from 108.5) in March while economists and analysts polled by Reuters expected it to average 108.0.

In industry, sentiment deteriorated to 7.9 from 9.0 in March. It fell to -4.3 from -2.4 in distribution and to 13.5 from 13.6 in services.

The consumer confidence indicator dipped to -22.0 after -21.6 the previous month.

The index measuring producer price expectations rose to a record high of 60.8, from 57.2 in March, but that of consumer expectations of inflation fell to 50.0 after the all-time high recorded in March at 62.9.
