(CercleFinance.com) – Retail sales rose sharply in November in the euro zone, data show Thursday by the European statistical agency.
According to Eurostat figures, the volume of seasonally adjusted retail sales rose 1% in the euro area in November, following an increase of just 0.3% in October.
Economists expected, for comparison, a decline of around 0.5%.
On an annual basis, that is to say compared to November 2020, the index corrected for the calendar effects of retail sales is up 7.8% in the euro zone.
Among the Member States, the strongest monthly increases were observed in Spain (+ 4.9%), Luxembourg (+ 4%) and Portugal (+ 2.8%), specifies Eurostat.
