Euro zone: Unemployment remains stable at 6.6% in June


BRUSSELS, Aug 1 (Reuters) – The euro zone unemployment rate remained unchanged at 6.6% in June, Eurostat said on Wednesday, in line with market expectations.

In the 19 countries sharing the euro, the unemployment rate remained at 6.6% of the labor force in June compared to May and down from the rate of 7.9% in June 2021, specified the European Statistical Office.

In absolute terms, the number of jobless people in the euro area fell to 10.925 million in June, from 10.900 million in May and 12.882 million a year earlier.

The lowest unemployment rate was recorded in Germany, with 2.8% of the labor force, while Spain recorded the highest rate at 12.6%. (Reporting Jan Strupczewski; French version Dina Kartit, editing by Kate Entringer)
