For the first time in the history of OGC Nice, the club could reach the semi-final of the Europa League Conference. The Niçois welcome the Swiss from FC Basel in the quarter-final second leg. A match to follow in full in “Europe 1 Sport” from 9 p.m. Even if the Galtier affair is never very far from the players.

Will OGC Nice reach the semi-finals of the Europa League Conference? The Riviera club faces the Swiss FC Basel in the quarter-finals this Thursday evening. A match to follow in full in Europe 1 Sports from 9 p.m. Nice is in a favorable tie, even if the Galtier affair is never far away.

“The club is ready to do anything to live an extraordinary adventure”

This case occupied a good part of the questions on Wednesday at a press conference. Christophe Galtier is suspected of having made racist and discriminatory remarks towards some of his players when he officiated on the Côte d’Azur. The former Nice coach firmly denies. The Nice prosecutor’s office has announced the opening of an investigation for “discrimination”. It is therefore not easy for his successor to manage such a storm while preparing a potentially historic match.

But Didier Digard assures him, all this will not penalize his team. “In the locker room, it’s more of a topic. On the one hand, yes, you can’t deny that this thing takes up space and takes on the light. But on the other, I really have the feeling of a club ready to give everything to live an extraordinary adventure”, he declared at the microphone of Europe 1.

On the way to history?

Last French club present in the European Cup, OGC Nice has a golden opportunity to discover the semi-finals of a continental competition. This Thursday evening, the stadium will be full as rarely, more than 30,000 spectators will be present. On the other hand, there will be no supporters of FC Basel, banned from traveling for security reasons.

The Swiss club, furious, denounces French arrogance and has decided to take the case to court. Decidedly, Nice is not moving forward in serenity in this spring of 2023.
