Europa League: FC Nantes remains hopeful, Monaco will qualify next week

The canaries scared each other to the end. Hooked by the Azeris of Qarabag, they managed to win in the last seconds of the game (2-1) thanks to a goal from Ganago.

This victory keeps them alive in the Europa League. Third in the standings with 6 points, they can hope to overtake their evening opponent on the last day of the group stage.

Qarabag, 2nd in the standings, is only one point ahead of Nantes (7 points). For the dressed in yellow, everything will therefore be decided next week during the perilous trip to Greece, against Olympiakos.

Monaco hooked

Joined at the end of the match Thursday in Budapest by the Hungarians of Ferencvaros (1-1) during the 5th day of the Europa League, Monaco can no longer finish in first place in group H and will need to beat the Red Star of Belgrade on the last day to be assured of the second.

Monaco will definitely finish second if they beat Etoile Rouge next Thursday at the Stade Louis-II. A draw could be enough too, provided Trabzonspor do not beat Ferencvaros.

In a precarious situation at kick-off, the Monegasques are therefore not much further ahead at the final whistle, but can at least tell themselves that their future belongs to them.

Logically punished

In attack, the Belgian technician had left Embolo on the bench at kick-off to revive Volland alongside Ben Yedder. The German was very discreet, but that did not prevent Monaco from starting very strong with a goal from Ben Yedder, canceled for offside (5th).

While the pace of the match had dropped after this lively start, it was again the French international who put his team in the lead with a magnificent “Madjer” on a good cross from Disasi after a powerful overflow ( 31st).

But Ferencvaros, on the other hand, completely took control of the match in the second period, while ASM continued to retreat. Nübel then made several saves but the Principality team was logically punished in the 81st minute.

Monaco therefore still has work to do on Thursday against the Red Star to continue its European journey.
