  • Breel Embolo scores for Monaco, but the Monegasque are eliminated against Leverkusen.

  • Urs Fischer’s Union Berlin eliminates Ajax Amsterdam.
  • In the big game of the night, Manchester United beat FC Barcelona and advance.

Monaco – Leverkusen 3:5 pt (2:3 pt, first leg: 3:2)

Thanks to Breel Embolo, AS Monaco could still hope for about three quarters of an hour longer to make it into the Europa League round of 16. The substitute Nati striker made it 2:3 in the 84th minute with a header and equalized the overall score to 5:5. Despite the superiority of the home team, no goal was scored until the end of extra time. In the penalty shootout, Embolo converted his attempt dry. But because teammate Eliot Matazo only hit the crossbar, Monaco’s European Cup campaign came to an end.

AS Roma 2-0 Salzburg (first leg: 0-1)

Salzburg goalkeeper Philipp Köhn and striker Noah Okafor will also have to be content with the national championship this spring. RB Salzburg lost 2-0 in Rome with goals from Andrea Belotti and Paulo Dybala. Köhn had no chance to defend against any of the goals conceded. The Romans’ victory was okay, the Austrians only went on the offensive a little more determinedly in the final phase. Two of Okafor’s degrees were too harmless.

Union Berlin – Ajax Amsterdam 3: 1 (first leg: 0: 0)

Urs Fischer continues to dance at all weddings. The top Bundesliga club led 2-0 after goals from Robin Knoche (hand penalty according to video evidence) and new signing Josip Juranovic. The Dutchman’s goal shortly after the break was answered by Danilho Doekhi just three minutes later to make it 3-1. Union brought the result in front of sold-out ranks with a lot of commitment and passion over time.

Nantes – Juventus 0:3 (first leg: 1:1)

After the arduous first leg, Juventus Turin confidently qualified for the round of 16 in Nantes. Angel Di Maria was a big figure in the 3-0 win. The Argentine world champion scored all the goals. Nantes weakened themselves with an early dismissal against Nicolas Pallois.
