Europa League: Round-Up – Freiburg and Roma celebrate late – Milan continue despite defeat – Sport

Freiburg – Lens 3:2 aet (overall scores 3:2)

Thanks to a strong comeback, SC Freiburg stormed into the round of 16 of the Europa League. In the playoff second leg, the Germans beat French runner-up Lens 3-2 after extra time despite being 0-2 down at half-time. The first leg ended in a goalless draw. Roland Sallai (67th/92nd) saved the Breisgauers from a sold-out crowd with a brace in extra time. There, substitute Michael Gregoritsch (99th) scored the winning goal. In addition to Bayer Leverkusen, Granit Xhaka (directly in the round of 16), another German club is still represented in the Europa League.

AS Roma – Feyenoord Rotterdam 4:2 nP (overall scores 5:3)

In extremis, AS Roma kept their chance of reaching the 3rd European Cup final de suite: New coach Daniele De Rossi’s team won 4-2 in a penalty shootout against Feyenoord Rotterdam. After 120 minutes it was 1:1 (1:1, 1:1): Santiago Tomas Gimenez scored with a pinball goal to make it 1-0 for the guests (5th), Lorenzo Pellegrini equalized shortly afterwards with a remarkable one Goal from (15th).

Rennes – AC Milan 3:2 (overall score 3:5)

AC Milan narrowly lost the second leg in Rennes, but thanks to their easy 3-0 home win a week ago they still reached the round of 16 as expected. Away in France, Nati player Noah Okafor’s team, who came on as a substitute in the 62nd minute, was able to equalize twice after Benjamin Bourigeaud’s first two goals. After the 30-year-old’s third strike to make it 3-2, the Italians were no longer able to react. Fabian Rieder was injured again at Rennes.

Frankfurt – Union St-Gilloise 1:2 (overall scores 3:4)

The Conference League starts the round of 16 without a German team. Eintracht Frankfurt lost 2-1 to Union Saint-Gilloise after a 2-2 draw in the first leg. Shortly after the break, Lausanne junior Cameron Puertas gave the Belgians a 1-0 lead with a shot from the edge of the penalty area. Dennis Eckert Ayensa increased the score in the 80th minute, and Junior Dina Ebimbe was only able to shorten the score for Frankfurt shortly before the end.

Bodö/Glimt – Ajax Amsterdam 1:2 aet (overall scores 3:4)

Ajax Amsterdam narrowly avoided defeat against Bodö/Glimt. Against the Norwegian champions, who missed numerous good chances, the Dutch only won 2-1 in extra time. In the first leg, Ajax were 2-0 down, but saved a 2-2 draw with two goals in stoppage time.
