Kayak Foursome Continues Wild Laburnum

After three gold medals on the first day of the finals at the European Championships in Munich, the German canoeists are happily continuing their series of successes: the men’s kayak foursome confidently wins gold over 500 meters and defends its European Championship title. Two women win a bronze medal.

The German men’s kayak four successfully defended their title over the 500 meters at the European Championships in Munich. The Tokyo Olympic champions Max Rendschmidt, Tim Liebscher and Max Lemke, together with Jacob Schopf, Ronald Rauhe’s successor, confidently prevailed in front of the boats from Slovakia and France on the regatta course in Oberschleißheim in 1:20.282 minutes.

Two weeks ago the quartet had to settle for silver at the World Championships in Halifax, Canada. Now the German parade boat managed to take revenge on the then victorious Spaniards, who this time – albeit with a different line-up – only finished in seventh place.

Paulina Paszek and Jule Hake had already successfully heralded the third day of competition for the German Canoe Association (DKV). Two weeks ago, the young duo took bronze in the kayak doubles over 500 meters after silver at the World Championships in Halifax, Canada. “We’re happy about every medal,” said Paszek with a smile. Jakob Thordsen in the kayak single and Lisa Jahn and Sophie Koch in the canoe double just missed out on a medal in fourth place.

After three title wins on Friday, DKV had already won medals four and five at the European Championships at home. More finals with German participation are on the program on Saturday, including three-time Olympic champion Sebastian Brendel, who will start one day after his triumph with Tim Hecker in the canoe pair over 5000 m.
