BRUSSELS (Reuters) – The European Commission opened an in-depth investigation on Monday into the revised rescue plan for airline Corsair and whether it can restore its long-term viability while limiting distortions of competition.
France asked Brussels last year for authorization to modify a restructuring plan approved by the European Commission in 2020 for the French airline, put in difficulty by the COVID-19 pandemic, arguing that external events exceptional and unpredictable events had a particularly negative impact on the group.
The investigation will also examine whether Corsair’s or the market’s contributions to restructuring costs are sufficient and free from any aid, whether state aid is proportionate and whether France receives fair remuneration for the subsidies, the European Commission said .
Based at Paris-Orly airport, Corsair mainly serves French overseas territories.
