European elections: “I would not make any confidences about the rest of the list”, declares Éric Ciotti

Who will appear with François-Xavier Bellamy on the Republican list for the European elections? Struggling in the polls, the LR list is estimated at between 7% and 8% voting intentions for the June 9 elections. Enough to plan again for a maximum of eight elected officials. The leading trio has already been announced: behind MEP François-Xavier Bellamy, voters will find farmer Céline Imart and General Christophe Gomart, former commander of army special operations and former director of French military intelligence.

But behind the trio, the mystery remains and right-wing figures like Nadine Morano or Brice Hortefeux are in the hot seat. A vagueness maintained by Éric Ciotti, president of the Republicans. “I would not make any confidences about the rest of the list. There are a lot of skills. We naturally want to bring together the broadest possible gathering. We will also do it with our centrist friends. It’s a tradition”, a- he said during the Grand Rendez-vous d’Europe 1/ CNews/ Les Échos.

Strategic vision

The president of the Republicans, confident, does not wish to limit himself to a list made up of eight deputies. A way to not anger anyone, neither on the Sarkozy side, nor on the centrist side? “Composing a list, we do it with François-Xavier Bellamy, is not the simplest thing,” he temporizes into Sonia Mabrouk’s microphone. “But I believe that what we have done since the beginning shows what we want, what we are. That is to say, I say, the party of responsibility, a party of government, a party of serious in an extremely difficult situation in the country”, he adds.

“Today I would like us to get back to basics, to have a strategic vision, to stop with this short-termism of politics which is so harmful. The slogans, the communication, the boxing gloves, everything That’s ridiculous when there are French people who are suffering,” he finally concluded. A strategy which must be effective because if the party does not obtain a minimum of 5% in the European elections, it will sign its disappearance in the European Parliament.
