Thierry Coste and Willy Schraen, respectively advisor and president of the National Federation of Hunters, present this Tuesday a list for the next European elections which will be held on June 9, 2024. Their watchword: the defense of rurality.

After weeks of secrecy, we now know more about the contours of this atypical formation which could shake things up during the next European elections. First of all, it is around an Auvergne buffet that this list called the Rural Alliance will be revealed this Tuesday. Willy Schraen, the boss of the Hunters’ Federation, should take the lead with, at his side, personalities like the former captain of the French rugby team, Louis Picamoles or Robert Margé, one of the most famous bull breeders French bullfight.

A candidacy pushed by Emmanuel Macron?

A time foreshadowed, the multi-starred chef Pierre Gagnaire he will ultimately not appear on this list which intends to defend rurality. The objective set is to exceed the 3% mark to be reimbursed for campaign expenses and why not, to reach the 5% which makes it possible to obtain MEPs.

The omnipresence in the preparations of this list of the lobbyist Thierry Coste, reputed to be close to Emmanuel Macron, suggests that it would be remotely guided by the Head of State to weaken the National Rally, very anchored in the rural world. Suspicions maintained behind the scenes by certain executives in the presidential camp. For his part, Willy Schraen denies it, even if he had called to vote for Emmanuel Macron during the last presidential election.
