European stock markets fell on Thursday, worried about the Russian threat to stop gas deliveries to Western countries, on which economic activity is largely dependent, particularly in Europe.

The Paris market ended down 1.21% at 6,659.87 points, Frankfurt by 1.31%, London by 0.83% and Milan by 1.10%. They are suffering their worst decline, except for London, since the arrival of Covid-19 at the start of 2020, the European benchmark index the Eurostoxx 50 having lost 9.21% since January 1.
