Emmanuel Macron called for help to avoid the predicted rout of his camp during the European elections. The Renaissance candidate, Valérie Hayer, largely behind in the polls, is now threatened by Raphaël Glucksmann’s socialist list. The president no longer has a choice: he must get involved directly.

Close on the heels of the Socialist Party candidate Raphaël Gluckmann and well ahead of the National Rally, Valérie Hayer, the head of the majority list for Europeans is painfully trying to maintain her second position in the polls. It is therefore as a last resort that Emmanuel Macron is forced to enter the campaign himself with a dual strategy.

Avoid humiliation in the face of the RN

On the one hand, to be on the front line, alongside your candidate, and on the other, to try to reduce the gap with Jordan Bardella’s list. The aim is in particular to try to avoid electoral humiliation at all costs while the RN has more than 30% of voting intentions. Thus, on Wednesday, the president denounced the party’s hypocrisy on the European question, then two days later, the head of state publicly encouraged his head of the list: “Where I am, I will try to help you, “to bring my forces to some moments of the campaign,” he said.

The next step, a major speech on Europe, scheduled for Thursday at the Sorbonne. Emmanuel Macron should then himself draw the broad outlines of the majority’s program, while for the moment, Valérie Hayer has revealed neither its main axes, nor the names which complete her list.
