PARIS (Reuters) – European markets opened higher on Friday in a context of sluggish trading for the last session of 2023.

In Paris, the CAC 40 advanced 0.38% to 7,564.1 points around 08:30 GMT. In Frankfurt, the Dax gained 0.28%, compared to 0.24% for the FTSE in London.

The pan-European FTSEurofirst 300 index takes 0.24%, the EuroStoxx 50 0.41% and the Stoxx 600 0.26%.

Over the year, the CAC 40 could post a gain of 16.4%, compared to 12.5% for the Stoxx 600.

New York index futures suggest Wall Street opening higher, with the Dow Jones rising 0.14%, compared to 0.15% for the Standard & Poor’s 500 and 0.17% for the Nasdaq.

Optimism about an upcoming rate cut by the central banks of rich countries continues to drive the markets, in the absence of other indicators and while most operators are on vacation.
