Eurovision 2024 winner Nemo speaks out

Representing Switzerland, Nemo won Eurovision 2024 after being acclaimed by the jury and the public. The 24-year-old non-binary artist, from Bienne, spoke after his victory.

The Eurovision contest is a unique opportunity to promote European art, and in particular to highlight the world of song. The final of the 68th Eurovision song contest took place in Malmö in Sweden, this Saturday May 11. Remember that the organizing country celebrated this year the 50th anniversary of the victory of the ABBA group, at this same competition.

During the evening, singers from all backgrounds presented themselves on stage. Twenty-six countries competed. Among the finalists were: Croatia, Ireland, Greece, United Kingdom, Latvia, Estonia, France, Switzerland, Portugal, Sweden, Ukraine, Germany, Luxembourg, Israel, among others. The jurors distributed their scores a few minutes after the candidates’ performances. The singer Slimane represented France with his song My love. Despite a lively and emotional performance, the former winner of The Voice obtained 4th place in the competition.

Eurovision 2024 was won by Switzerland. It was Nemo, a non-binary artist from Bienne, who represented his country by performing The Code. This song expresses living as a non-binary person.The Code chronicles the journey I began realizing that I am neither a man nor a woman… Finding myself was a long and often difficult process for me. But nothing beats the feeling of freedom that I gained realizing that I am non-binary”said the 24-year-old artist during an interview, reported Ouest-France.

During the evening, Nemo impressed the public and the jury. The artist has also obtained the highest score in the competition on several occasions. In total, twenty-two countries awarded it 12 points. Switzerland won Eurovision 2024 with 591 points (just ahead of Croatia). Shortly after his performance, Némo said: “I hope this competition can continue to encourage peace and dignity for everyone.”

Very enthusiastic, Nemo and his entourage welcomed with joy the scores awarded by the jury and the public. Proud of the progress made, the representative of Switzerland did not fail to express himself after winning the victory.

The non-binary artist highlighted the importance of giving visibility to people who don’t feel recognized by stating: “I’m incredibly proud, not for myself, but for our entire community, for everyone who is non-binary, gender fluid, transgender, fair, people who dare to be themselves and who need to be heard and understood.
