At the May 7, 2023 the “Eurovision Song Contest 2023” in Liverpool was officially heralded with the opening on the turquoise carpet. Until May 14, 2023 you can expect daily broadcasts on the biggest music event in the world. We’ll show you where you can watch the live shows, but also the special program for the ESC.

First semi-final

The first semi-final of the “Eurovision Song Contest 2023” starts on Tuesday, May 9, 2023. You can follow the show live on German television on ONE or as a live stream on Eurovision.de, in the ARD media center and on YouTube.

Second semi-final

The second semi-final of the “Eurovision Song Contest 2023” starts on Thursday, May 11, 2023. You can follow the show live on German television on ONE or as a live stream on Eurovision.de, in the ARD media center and on YouTube.

ESC final

The final of the “Eurovision Song Contest 2023” starts on Saturday 13th May 2023. You can follow the show live on German television on Das Erste and ONE or watch it live on Eurovision.de, in the ARD media center and on YouTube.

Fixed participants in the final: Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Spain, France, Ukraine

That’s why Germany is already in the final of the ESC

A total of 37 countries will take part in the “Eurovision Song Contest” in 2023. 31 of them will compete in two semi-finals on May 9th and 11th, 2023 to get one of the coveted spots for the ESC final. Six countries do not have to face this fight and are directly set for the final. Among them is Germany.

The so-called “Big Five”, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Spain and France are the largest sponsors for the event and therefore travel safely in the final of the ESC. Last year’s winning country, Ukraine, also secured its place in the final.

Normally, the winning country from the previous year is also the host country for the upcoming ESC. Due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, this year’s staging will be taken over by Great Britain, who finished second last year.

This is how it is voted on

ESC viewers can vote for their favorite act on the evening of the semi-finals and finals. This can be done in the classic way by phone or SMS, but also via the official Eurovision app.

There are strict rules on who can vote for whom. So it is not allowed to vote for your own country.

Voting in the semi-finals is different than in the grand final of the ESC. In the semifinals, only the votes of the spectators count. For the final, there is also a separate vote by a specialist jury.

In each semi-final, only the participating countries are allowed to vote for the acts. The Big Five and last year’s winner will be given voting rights for one of the semi-finals. Countries that do not participate in the ESC have also been allowed to vote for the first time since 2023. Your votes will be totaled and included in the general vote as a “world” vote.
