The grand finale of the “Eurovision Song Contest 2024” will take place in May 2024. There are numerous programs for music enthusiasts surrounding the show. We have all the broadcasts on TV and streams and further information about the music event of the year.
As every year, the “Eurovision Song Contest” returns in 2024 and will once again get all of Europe singing and dancing. Since Sweden won the 67th competition in 2023 with Loreen’s song “Tattoo”, we are celebrating the “ESC 2024” this year in the Swedish port city of Malmö.
In the grand finale on May 11, 2024 we find out who gets to win the coveted trophy. But before that, there are numerous other shows that get us in the mood for the music event of the year. The German ESC preliminary decision 2024
It is not yet known who will represent Germany with their music act at the ESC 2024. However, that should change soon. The German preliminary round is a big spectacle this year and consists of several shows.
It starts with the first three episodes of the casting show “I want to go to the ESC!”, which starts on January 25, 2024 in the ARD media library. In the show, former ESC winner Conchita Wurst and musician Rea Garvey accompany 15 talented musicians on their way to the German preliminary round “Eurovision Song Contest – The German Final 2024”.
The 15 talents appear in the first episode of the format and are then divided into “Team Conchita Wurst” and “Team Rea Garvey”. Anyone who doesn’t make it into any of the groups is eliminated. The experienced coaches then begin training their protégés together. But over the course of the 6-episode show, they are gradually weeded out.
Only the four best singers will be allowed to show their skills in front of a live audience on February 8, 2024. In the final of “I want to go to the ESC!” The spectators can then decide who gets the coveted wildcard in order to be able to take part in the real preliminary round on February 16, 2024.
The German preliminary decision will then proceed as usual. The ESC editorial team has selected music acts in advance and will introduce them to us during a live show. They are then joined by the wildcard, which is represented by “I want to go to the ESC!” was determined. Once all the acts have been presented, an expert jury and calls from viewers will decide who will be allowed to go to the “Eurovision Song Contest 2024” for Germany.

Which country will compete in which semi-final?
37 countries are taking part in the “Eurovision Song Contest 2024” this year. Six of these countries have already secured their place in the final, including Germany. The other 31 countries have to prove their skills in one of two semi-finals before they can compete for the ESC title.
Which countries will take part in which semi-final will be drawn on January 30, 2024 on YouTube. The draws for the final will follow the semi-finals. Places as late as possible are particularly popular, as the acts tend to stay in the audience’s mind for longer. This increases the chance of a good placement.
First semi-final

That’s why Germany is already in the final of the ESC
A total of 2024 participants will take part in the “Eurovision Song Contest”. 37 countries part. 31 of them will compete against each other in two semi-finals on May 7th and 9th, 2024 in order to get one of the coveted places in the ESC final. Six countries did not have to face this fight and are already seeded directly for the final. This includes Germany.
The so-called “Big Five”Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Spain and France are the largest donors to the event and are therefore certain to be in the final of the ESC. Last year’s winning country, Sweden, has also secured its place in the final.
This is how voting is done
ESC viewers can vote for their favorite act on the evening of the semi-finals and finals. This can be done traditionally by phone or SMS, but also via the official Eurovision app.
Who can vote for whom is strictly regulated. You are not allowed to vote for your own country.
Voting in the semi-finals is different than in the grand final of the ESC. In the semi-finals, only the votes of the viewers count. For the final, there is also a separate vote by an expert jury.
In each semi-final, only the participating countries are allowed to vote for the acts. The Big Five and last year’s winner will be allocated voting rights for one of the semi-finals. Even countries that do not take part in the ESC have been allowed to vote for the first time since 2023. Your votes will be totaled and included in the general vote as a “world” vote.
