Ukraine is the big favorite at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. Kalush Orchestra are ahead of all major bookmakers.
Ukraine is the top favorite for winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. The Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra is ahead of the bookmakers with their song “Stefania”. the fan site eurovision.com has collected odds from several major bookmakers. The rap song sung in Ukrainian ranked first in all of them. The experts and bookmakers are therefore probably counting on a solidarity bonus in favor of Ukraine.
Clear favorite with 35 percent chance of winning
The win rate is mostly around two. For example, if you bet 100 euros on a win from Kalush Orchestra, you will get 200 euros if you win.
According to eurovision.com, Ukraine has a 35 percent chance of winning. For comparison, second-placed Italy only has a 16 percent chance. Eight percent are in third place, Sweden.
The German participant Malik Harris ranks 24th out of 40 participating countries with a chance of winning of only one percent.
Ukraine already won in 2016 – with a political song
Russia is not there at all. The Eurovision Song Contest board had banned the country from the competition over the attack on Ukraine.
In 2016, the singer Jamal (38) won the ESC for Ukraine, for the second time for the country after 2004. Two years earlier, Russia had annexed Crimea. Jamala’s victory with the highly political song “1944” was also seen as a political statement by observers in 2016.
The Eurovision Song Contest will take place on May 14, 2022 in Turin. Kalush Orchestra must first survive the semi-finals on May 10th.
