EV9 as a role model – Kia Sorento: Big plus in elegance & topicality

Kia is lifting its large combustion engine SUV. The Sorento presented in 2020 receives a modernized front design and new comfort technology. The 4.70 meter long mid-range crossover, which offers space for five, six or seven passengers, will be available to order from spring 2024, initially as a diesel. The hybrids will be submitted later.

The most visually important change concerns the front, which now has a new radiator grille and horizontally arranged low beams. The daytime running lights are arranged in a star shape, like their electric sister model EV9. There are also slight changes to the side and rear, such as a new LED light graphic.Completely new cockpitIn the completely modernized and now much more elegant cockpit there is a large concave screen on top that combines the central touchscreen and the speedometer display. For the first time, a fingerprint scanner is integrated into the infotainment system, with which the user can access their own profile. In addition, the smartphone can now be used instead of the key to unlock the vehicle. The new Autobahn Assistant 2.0 can independently change lanes at a certain speed as soon as the driver signals in the appropriate direction. In addition to the turning function, the front collision warning system now also has cross-traffic detection and, if necessary and possible, initiates evasive maneuvers. The system also now prevents collisions with vehicles ahead or oncoming vehicles in the adjacent lane. The optimized all-round view camera now shows a 3D display. The drive program remains unchanged. The cheapest option is a 194 hp 2.2-liter diesel, which is available with front- or all-wheel drive. Alternatively, there is a 230 hp hybrid and a plug-in hybrid with 265 hp. The diesel has an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, the two hybrid variants have a six-speed automatic. The manufacturer does not yet mention prices; the current model starts at a good 60,000 euros. (SPX/aum)
