The Remiremont hospital in the Vosges finds itself in spite of itself in the heart of the news. Nearly four families have filed a complaint against the establishment, for manslaughter and injury and endangering the lives of others. In question, the deaths of four patients who did not have significant health problems.
What is happening at Remiremont hospital, in the Vosges? Already four families have filed a complaint against the establishment: three for “manslaughter” and another for “injury and endangering the lives of others”. Because the situation seems to repeat itself. Four women hospitalized between December 2018 and July 2022 were admitted for health issues, a priori minors. Two of them are admitted because of acute pancreatitis, the other two for fractures of the femur. Except that a few days after their arrival, the patients die, to the amazement of the families.
A medical file riddled with inconsistencies
“My mother had been hospitalized for a week following a fractured femur. But the post-operative follow-up looked satisfactory. So why on Friday morning, everything changed and we lost our mother”, wonders Angélique, who lost her mother in July 2022.
Faced with questions from the family, the hospital remains silent. The family therefore asks for access to the medical file, and very quickly notices inconsistencies. “We realized that there were several hours of death. At first, we have 7 hours, then 7:51 on another document, and finally 8:13 on another form”, explains Angelique at the microphone from Europe 1.
Communication error
And there is no question of obtaining answers from the public health establishment. “The last exchange with the surgeon who operated on him was to say to us: ‘You wanted the medical file, now you have it, you do what you have to do with it'”, notes the daughter of a the victims.
Faced with the press, the Remiremont hospital recognizes a communication problem. But refutes any medical error. The Epinal prosecution has opened a judicial investigation. A fifth complaint should be filed next January.
