In theaters since Wednesday, “Evil Dead Rise” is a new episode in the horror saga, worn by former model Alyssa Sutherland.
Exit the isolated hut in the forest of the previous opuses, this time the horror is played out in a building in Los Angeles. This is the setting for Evil Dead Rise, directed by Irishman Lee Cronin, who has the heavy task of relaunching the famous saga initiated by Sam Raimi.
After the original trilogy carried by Bruce Campbell and the remake by Fede Alvarez released ten years ago, place for new characters: we follow Beth, a young woman visiting her sister Ellie who is raising her three children alone. But their reunion turns into a nightmare, when they discover a mysterious book in the basement of the building, the reading of which frees demons who take possession of Ellie. She then turns into a terrifying monster and does not hesitate to attack her own family.
Ellie is played by Alyssa Sutherland, a former model from Brisbane, Australia. From the age of 15, she landed the cover of several fashion magazines. She then moved to New York to pursue her career and appeared in several advertising campaigns for prestigious brands such as Chanel, Bulgari and Calvin Klein.
She took her first steps in comedy in 2006, while remaining in the fashion world that is familiar to her, with The Devil Wears Prada, alongside Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. She continues with appearances in the New Amsterdam and New York SVU series, as well as the indie films The Fortune Theory and Spencer.

It was in 2013 that she landed the role that will make her known to the general public, that of Aslaug Sigurddottir who will become Queen Aslaug, in the Vikings series. The latter, in addition to being the second wife of Ragnar Sigurdsson, warrior, hero and king of Denmark, can also predict the future through visions. A role she will hold for three seasons.
She continued in 2017 with another series, The Mist, adapted from Stephen King’s novel. She plays Eve Cunningham, a mother doing her best to protect her teenage daughter from the dangers that lurk in the fog. But the program convinced neither the public nor the critics and was canceled after one season. We find Alyssa Sutherland for an episode of Timeless, where she lends her features to Hedy Lamarr, the glamorous actress who invented the scientific principle used today for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technologies.

With Evil Dead Rise, she radically changes register and shines in a particularly physical role for which she had to train with head stuntman Stuart Thorp: “I found that being able to focus on the precision of the choreography while performing was a bit like patting your head with one hand while rubbing your stomach with the other”. In a deluge of gore effects, the actress has not forgotten the main thing: having fun. “Don’t take it too seriously. It’s an Evil Dead movie. It’s supposed to be fun. It’s meant to be entertaining and it’s a privilege to be part of a franchise like this.”she says to Collider.
