Ex-BamS boss Horn returns
Springer Group throws out the entire “Bild” editor-in-chief

Chairs are moved in the executive floor of the “Bild” newspaper. The editors-in-chief Johannes Boie, Alexandra Würzbach and Claus Strunz are stepping down. The new editor-in-chief will be former “Bild am Sonntag” boss Marion Horn.

The editor-in-chief of the “Bild” newspaper is downsized and remodeled. Marion Horn will take over as editor-in-chief with immediate effect, the former “Focus” boss Robert Schneider will become editor-in-chief of “Bild” in mid-April, the Springer group announced in Berlin. The current editors-in-chief Johannes Boie, Alexandra Würzbach and Claus Strunz are stepping down from their previous roles. It is not yet clear whether they will continue to work for the group. Boie took up the post of editor-in-chief on October 18, 2021, succeeding Julian Reichelt.

The managing director of the Bild Group, Claudius Senst, said: “‘Bild’ is number 1 in Germany and it is our aim that it remains so in the digital only era. This is a fundamental transformation in editorial, organizational and cultural terms . It also requires changes in the editor-in-chief.”

In the future, the management of the chief editorship will consist of two instead of four people. According to the group, she is to further develop the newspaper journalistically and strategically, sharpen the tabloid profile and drive digital change forward. Horn and Schneider will work together with the deputy editors-in-chief René Bosch, Timo Lokoschat, Tanja May, Paul Ronzheimer, Mandy Sachse and Yvonne Weiß and will assign the individual areas of responsibility after Schneider takes office. Until then, Horn is editor-in-chief of both “Bild” and “Bild am Sonntag”. The company announced Schneider’s appointment last December, but at the time it was not clear when he would take up his new position.

Horn previously worked for consulting firms

Horn had been with Springer for more than 25 years, from January 2001 as a member of the editor-in-chief of “Bild”. In October 2013, she became the first woman in the history of the newspaper to become editor-in-chief of “Bild am Sonntag”. Horn left Springer in 2019. In the meantime, she worked as a partner at the consulting company Biscuit CNC. She is the first chairwoman of the board of trustees of the aid organization “Bild” helps eV “A heart for children”.

“I am very pleased that Marion Horn and Robert Schneider are coming back to Axel Springer and ‘Bild’. They represent our path to the future,” says Mathias Döpfner, CEO of Axel Springer SE. He thanks Boie, Würzbach and Strunz for their commitment and achievements.
