Exacompta Clairefontaine: profitability will decrease in 2024

(Boursier.com) — Meeting on November 30, 2023 in Paris under the chairmanship of François Nusse, the board of directors ofExacompta Clairefontaine examined the group’s situation as of September 30 and its foreseeable development…

The first half benefited from two exceptional items in the operating profit of €46.21 million:
– A capital gain on real estate sale of 10.5 ME.
– Aid on the cost of electricity including 5.5 ME relating to past years.

The annual operating profit expected for 2023 should be up sharply and the net result would be around 50 ME (compared to 27 ME in 2022), exceptional items included and taking into account goodwill depreciation, the assessments of which remain to be finalized.

However, profitability in 2024 will be affected by the reduction of stocks in the various distribution channels and by a rise in the price of paper pulps. The sales trend of European graphic paper producers remains strongly downward (-24% for the first 10 months of the year – source Eurograph).

No improvement in sales is expected for 2024 and the level of activity should also be down for the group. Furthermore, Exacompta Clairefontaine will no longer benefit in 2024 from energy prices negotiated before the energy crisis, which will generate an additional cost of around 20 ME over the financial year.
