Excel script recording was only available on the online application until now. Microsoft is implementing it, among other features, in Mac and PC versions. And by the way, Microsoft also wants to help you better understand its spreadsheet.
Office scripts in Excel help automate repetitive tasks. They are very practical, but so far they are only available on certain versions of the spreadsheet, Microsoft 365, for example. They must also be programmed either in JavaScript or in TypeScript, which makes them not very accessible to the general public. The Redmond company plans to offer a more ergonomic and faster version of this feature, for all versions of Excel. Great news for the many users of this software. According to Microsoft, 16% of the world’s population uses Excel ; this represents no less than 2 billion people.
The “Automate” tab will facilitate the creation of Excel scripts by recording Actions. It will be enough to click on the record button, to carry out one or more actions on the Excel table. After recording an action, all the tasks performed will be converted into a reusable script at will. This should save you valuable hours of productivity. In the company’s own words, “With this stock recorder, you can automate repetitive tasks without any programming experience “.
Microsoft wants to make Excel easier to learn by suggesting functions
The suggested formulas is another new addition to Redmond’s pipes, but in a separate update. Spreadsheet beginners and pros alike will appreciate being offered a list of functions adapted to the context. Microsoft hopes this will allow users to “learn Excel as you go”.
