The release of FF7 Rebirth is fast approaching, and no, that’s not an exaggeration. We will finally be able to get our hands on it on February 29. In the meantime, please note that a demo is already available. It allows you to play as Cloud or Sephiroth during the flashback to Nibelheim. Ideal to make fans’ mouths water. However, while all eyes are on the sequel to the 2020 remake, we have just received new information on the conclusion of this new trilogy.
FF7 Remake 3 storyline is complete
Well, don’t get too excited, FF7 Remake 3 (provisional name) is not ready to be released. Maybe we’ll enjoy Rebirth before we start thinking about the next opus, right? Nevertheless, it is always interesting to note what we are told about it. We didn’t necessarily expect it, but we were indeed entitled to a statement on this title about which we know almost nothing. And so far, it hasn’t been idle at Square Enix. During an interview for Famitsu, Tetsuya Nomura explained that the script was… ready. It was quick.
In truth, there’s still quite a bit of work left, and this is only a first draft of the main story. It goes without saying that it will probably be modified, but it still shows that the development of FF7 Remake 3 is progressing quietly. The producer of Rebirth, Yoshinori Kitase, also took the opportunity to make an intervention. He mentions the fact that it was Kazushige Nojima who made a complete outline of the story, and it was up to Hamaguchi to implement it into an unforgettable video game experience.
Nomura and Kitase will therefore supervise the project and contribute ideas. For his part, the director of FF7 Remake 3 wants the story part to really be left in the hands of those who worked on the original released in 1997. His role will then be to translate that into a game that will leave us agape. At this level, we’re not too worried, especially given our first impressions of Rebirth. In any case, it promises great things for the future.
A story that will shake up our bearings
Since we’re talking about FF7 Remake 3, at what point in the story will it begin? Exactly, that’s good, since we know where the plot of Rebirth will end. It will be in the Forgotten Capital, the ancient capital of the Cetras which, as a reminder, are the people of Aerith. This is where she is supposed to meet her death at the hands of Sephiroth. But couldn’t that change? One thing is certain, the main plot will diverge from that of the original. It remains to be seen whether they will go so far as to change such a turning point in the history of the game. Let’s also remember that Hamaguchi had said that we were going to “lose our minds” over what was going to happen.
