Exchange with young people – Federal Councilor Amherd visits the federal scout camp – News

  • The largest scout camp in Switzerland – the Bula – had prominent visitors on Saturday.
  • Sports Minister Viola Amherd traveled to Ulrichen (VS) and was “impressed by the infrastructure and the young people present” in the camp.
  • According to Amherd, such camps are very important for the development of young people.

During her visit, the Federal Councilor was also given a scout’s name, namely “Racket”, as can be read on a baptismal certificate. The Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) published corresponding images.

The Valais magistrate exchanged ideas with young people and also took part in some games, as a VBS spokesman said.

Such camps are “very important for the development of young people” from a social, sporting and health point of view, who can discuss and play with each other, Amherd told the French-speaking Swiss radio RTS. In her eyes, it is a “true school” of life.

Only every 14 years

The DDPS is strongly committed to the federal camp. The federal government supports this with around seven million Swiss francs. The total budget is around CHF 25 million. The army provided 200 tons of material.

The federal scout camp takes place every 14 years. The 2022 edition opened last Sunday and will end on August 6th. Around 30,000 children and young people take part.
