During an interview with Closer, Patrick Sébastien spoke about feminism and confided in a very specific condition of the interview.
Open heart. Recently separated from the woman he spent several decades with and recovering following an operation for kidney cancer, Patrick Sébastien spoke to Closer aboutan omnipresent topic in the news: feminism. Author of a book he notably wrote “for [se] heal and to transmit to others the strength to hold on”the former flagship host of France Télévisions talks about this thorny theme, saying to himself “annoyed by the excesses of the new feminism“. He explains this statement by specifying: “I’m one thousand percent for #MeToo and for free speech. But this kind of talk does a lot of harm to the feminist cause. (…) Rape is not in my culture. But today, there is suspicion towards all men.”
It is in particular this suspicion of which he speaks which prompted Patrick Sébastien to express himself on the interview he gave to our journalist from Closer and on the conditions he believed had to be met for him to participate. “If your photographer was not with us in my office, I would not have received you alone. I am here today”. Words that reflect a particular state of mind vis-à-vis feminism thanks to which more and more women are speaking out to denounce the attacks of which they are victims. However, speaking from his own experiences, Patrick Sébastien gives an example of the kind of situation that prompted him to specify that if the Closer journalist had been alone with him, he would not have received her.
Patrick Sébastien: “It becomes so nonsense…”
“This summer, I’m giving an interview to a journalist in the middle of a heat wave. I say: ‘It’s hot’, she replies: ‘Are you implying that I have to take off my blouse?’. It becomes so nonsense… My lawyer even advised me to film with my phone when a maid brings me my breakfast”. Besides feminism and his opinion on it, Patrick Sébastien has also talked about another most serious topic, namely his death. “I want people to write on my grave: ‘If you love me, shut your mouths’. It’s a sentence that Jacques Brel said five minutes before he died”. A very special epitaph that fits perfectly with the cash and frank personality of Patrick Sébastien, who intends to remain so until the grave.
