My children aged 16 and 19 were able to stay with her during her last days, hours… Excuse- I’m upset…”he starts to say. “It brings back personal memories,” he explains. If he does not clearly mention the name of this relative, we know that Nicolas Demorand has lost a brother to cancer. The journalist continues to read. “I’m very grateful that they did this. For them. Thanks to them.”
Nicolas Demorand pays tribute to his brother
Upset and on the verge of tears, Nicolas Demorand confides : “I was also able to experience what palliative care could be. A loved one, a very loved one finds themselves there. It is also a school of humanity”. It must be said that Nicolas Demorand and his brother Sébastien were very close. On January 21, 2020, at the age of 51, Sébastien Demorand left. Thus, the journalist had wanted to pay tribute to him. While Marie-Pierre Planchon presented the weather forecast, Léa Salamé’s colleague added a few words. “If the frosts were less severe this morning, during the day the temperatures remain a bit fair for the season. Remembering the Auvergne saying: ‘Snow à la Saint-Sébastien, weeds never come back'”she concluded before Nicolas Demorand slipped: “And I kiss one from Sébastien, my eternal brother”.
Two brother journalists
Sébastien Demorand was also a journalist, presenter and food critic. He had also participated in MasterChef from 2010 to 2013. But it is above all for his journalistic career that Nicolas Demorand admired his brother. “I was a teacher from 23 to 30 years old”he admitted in Ouest France in 2017, “I taught this strange subject called general culture. But I really wanted to become a journalist. Sébastien took me in hand and gave some very useful lessons at the start”. Very grateful to their parents, the two brothers were raised to love education. “Our parents were straddling the school question. Our father was the son of a poor grocer and our mother, a Jew born in Oran, the daughter of a poor cabinetmaker. They are miracles at school who got by thanks to reading”assured the younger Parisian.
