Titan OS is the name of the new operating system which will arrive on the market in 2024 on several references of Philips televisions. The brand, led by TP Vision, is thus announcing the color by adopting an alternative to Google TV which should also be found by other manufacturers subsequently.

This new Smart TV platform promises a complete and personalized experience, notably offering most streaming services as well as a large selection of local content.

A serious competitor to Google TV?

Created by former experienced executives who cut their teeth in the entertainment and media industry, notably from Disney, Roku and Rakuten TV, Titan OS promises to be an ambitious player in Smart TV platforms. For good reason, the young European company has just concluded a global partnership with TP Vision, which means that the interface will be available this year on certain models of Philips and AOC televisions in Europe and Latin America. In addition, Titan OS SL has entered into a second partnership, with Currys, a leader in electronics retail, to launch the operating system on JVC televisions owned by the retailer in Great Britain.

Who says new platform, also says new advertising solutions for television manufacturers. The interface does not in fact arrive alone since Titan Advertising is in charge to allow manufacturers to generate revenue through advertising integrated into the platform. While Google TV remains the preferred choice of a majority of manufacturers, Titan OS and its advertising division are entering a competitive but relatively large market since 40% of televisions do not have their own operating system, according to a GfK analysis of 2022, unlike Samsung with Tizen, or even LG with WebOS.

Philips is also not the only one to explore new solutions to generate revenue in the world of televisions, as we saw during CES with the announcement of the switch to Fire TV for certain Panasonic televisions, instead of instead of MyHomeScreen, the manufacturer’s in-house OS whose main interest was precisely to be free of advertising.

Two series with Titan OS from Philips

During a press conference given in Barcelona, where Titan OS SL has established its headquarters, Philips presented its 2024 TV catalog, announcements to which we will return in future articles. We notably learned that Titan OS will equip two series of mid-range Philips televisions, with the PML9049 Mini-LED television series, also called The Xtra, as well as the PUS8909 series, or The One. On the other hand, you will have to be patient to know the details and the possibilities offered by Titan OS.

Kostas Vouzas, CEO of TP Vision for Europe and Latin America, justified the choice of a new operating system by discussing the group’s strategy: “As part of our long-term strategy, it is imperative to have the choice between several Smart TV platforms. Our collaboration with Titan OS SL has allowed us to participate in the definition of the Titan OS platform and will allow us to implement our own customization and integration into our products. Ultimately, our customers will benefit from easy access to premium global services while increasing and simplifying their access to more local content.”.
