Expansion of the LEC and Euro on LoL: Riot Games has (a little) spoken

For you, who is the boss of the LEC ? Some would say it’s G2 Esports, given that the team is once again on top of Europe after destroying Rogue in the finals. Others may cite well-known figures from the scene like quickshot, Sjokz Where bulli or veterans like caps Where Perkz. But in practice, the real boss is the Commissioner Maximilian Peter Schmidt. He regularly posts information on the European league on the networks, even if it is sometimes necessary to sort out his jokes and his real announcements. He gave an interview to our colleagues from The Team and several very hot topics were discussed… Among them, the long-awaited expansion by the Karmine Corp. and the possible organization of a Euro on League of Legends to finally shut down the Spaniards.

These subjects are so sensitive that we are always happy to have some news, especially when it is official. But there was no miracle either and we feel that Riot Games advance really with precaution… We summarize everything there was to remember from this interview!

The expansion of the LEC: when will there be a transition to 12 teams to make room for the Karmine Corp?

It’s a bit like the sea serpent of the LEC. Last year, Esportmaniacos caused the buzz by announcing that a project to extend the LEC to 12 teams was on the pool table. The fans of Karmine Corp had obviously taken the information with joy and have since dreamed of joining the European elite… Kameto, very enthusiastic and confident, led a crazy transfer window by recruiting Rekkles while maintaining sizes like Cabochard and saken. He likes to repeat it, but he is aiming for the Worlds and it will not pass an accession to the LEC. The small problem is that since then, there has been no other information to confirm the rumor. We even contacted the LEC for an official response. And the signal sent was not particularly positive. The answer was: we are thinking about it but for the moment there is nothing planned.

In the interview carried out in the columns of the Team, we are hardly more advanced. We learn that Maximilian Peter Schmidt think about the issue of expansion EVERY DAY. For him it is a need, which is positive for the Karmine Corp and other teams wishing to apply. What is less is that he does not know when it will happen… He did not want to give an answer for 2023 and we could well wait for a while before seeing the European league move to 12 or more teams. As it is necessary to evaluate the ins and outs with Riot Games, the partners and the teams, we imagine that the construction site will take time. It is difficult to see how it could be done for next year. There is therefore nothing really new, but using the term necessity still gives a lot of hope. We’ll have to settle for that for now. To go a little further, he nevertheless specified that the goal was to keep the LEC at the top of the competitive pyramid. teams like K.C., KOI Where Eintracht Spandau must therefore continue to work to grow and become stronger. From the moment their level of play is higher than the LEC teams, things will speed up.

The Euro on League of Legends, it’s not for now

The French community is not only interested in the future and necessary expansion of the LEC. She would also like to see a international competition based on the nationality of the players… We particularly appreciate the arc France vs Spain and a project would be certain to stir up passions. On this point, the commissioner of the LEC was also very vague. He promised that the file was in progress. But you have to find the right formula, especially in terms of the calendar. In any case, it seems much more feasible to make a Euro than a World Cup. We want to say that coming out with such evidence does not break a duck’s three legs. Well, we imagine that Maximilian Peter Schmidt try to do your best.

To be completely honest, it still feels like that we beat around the bush and that it rows dry on the side of the LEC. Even if we have long wanted to have official and reliable statements, when we look at the content of this interview, we do not know whether to see the glass of water half full or half empty. In terms of the calendar and while the players regularly complain of having an overloaded schedule, we imagine that a Euro could potentially replace the EUM and or the MSI… But can Riot Games afford to give up on these competitions?

esport-lol

Nisqy hasn’t really disappeared from League of Legends radar, but it’s been a while since we’ve seen him compete in Europe. Blocked on the Fnatic bench, some would like to see him have fun in ERL. But the Belgian has his reasons for refusing such offers.
