Expert opinion confirmed – Klagenfurt indoor swimming pool must remain closed!

It is a shock for swimmers: An expert opinion recommends that the old indoor swimming pool should not be unlocked in September due to structural problems in the static area. City chief Christian Scheider has commissioned a second report. Internally, the shreds fly. The public utilities as the operator are under criticism. Do people from Klagenfurt have to go to other cities to swim?

What is happening at the existing indoor swimming pool is political explosive. An expert opinion by Reinhold Svetina recommends that the decades-old “bathtub” in Klagenfurt’s Gasometergasse should not be unlocked because of the structural problems.

Since March of the previous year, the pool has been closed almost continuously due to Corona. Nevertheless, nothing was done structurally in the bathing establishment. The indoor pool would have to hold out until the new vital pool opens in 2025. For the new project, however, the construction work has not even started; planning is currently underway at Porr AG. The costs are currently 50 to 60 million euros.

1993 last renovation

The most recent general renovation of the indoor swimming pool in 1993 left a lot to be desired. The public utilities around Erwin Smole and Harald Tschurnig and ex-mayor Maria-Luise Mathiaschitz are now at the center of criticism.

The new city chief Christian Scheider has commissioned a second report from a pool specialist. How much money is there for a renovation?

The second report should bring certainty

Static problems are not easy to solve. And they take time. The new STW supervisory board chairman Jürgen Dumpelnik works from his office in Graz: “The second report should be available by August 15th. Then you know more. Are only small cosmetic repairs or a major renovation necessary? “

Scheider wants alternatives. Do people from Klagenfurt have to go to St. Veit or Villach from September if they want to swim? It is unthinkable that the static repairs will be completed by mid-September
