While the 5th arrondissement of Paris was hit by an explosion on June 21, 2023, it was the turn of the 18th arrondissement of the French capital to be the victim of the same type of incident on Saturday August 5, 2023. That day, a powerful explosion ripped open a building located at number 26 rue du Nord around 2:30 p.m.. Unlike the explosion in the 5th arrondissement, that of the 18th arrondissement was not followed by a fire. However, more than a hundred firefighters were still mobilized on the spot. For the moment, we still do not know what could have caused this new explosion. Officially, the police headquarters is waiting “the conclusions of the laboratory analyzes to determine the causes of the explosion”. However, according to a police source quoted by The Parisian Sunday August 6, 2023, a domestic accident is in fact the cause of this incident. Concretely, the disaster was involuntarily caused by the manager of a five-storey furnished hotel, which is located at number 26 rue du Nord.
Explosion in Paris: 20 people have been relocated to a youth hostel
The explosion, which left a gaping hole in the building, whose third-floor facade was projected onto the roadway, is said to have occurred following the use of a pest control bomb. A total of five people were injured in this explosion. One of them was “in absolute urgency” when she was taken care of by the emergency services. Fortunately, his vital prognosis was not engaged. For its part, the Paris prosecutor’s office opened “a flagrant investigation, on the count of involuntary injuries followed by an incapacity of more than three months”. The investigations, which “aim to verify the accidental trail”, were entrusted to the police station of the 18th arrondissement of Paris. For his part, the mayor of the 18th arrondissement of Paris, Éric Lejoindre (PS), indicated that “20 people have been relocated to a youth hostel” following this explosion. Moreover, the inhabitants of the two buildings located right next to this hotel were also evacuated as a safety measure.
