Explosion of tanker trucks in the Emirates: what we know


Several tank trucks exploded on Monday January 17 in an extension of Abu Dhabi airport in the United Arab Emirates.

The provisional human toll reports 3 dead and 6 injured. Here’s what we knew at midday.

A drone attack evoked

The authorities on site mentioned an incident “probably” linked to a drone attack, which led to the explosion of these trucks containing fuel.

The official WAM news agency said a “wide investigation” into the “causes of this fire”.

The capital of the United Arab Emirates could have been the target of an attack, as the geopolitical context has become tense between the army and the Houthi rebels in recent weeks.

Originally present in northwestern Yemen, the Houthis spoke of a “major military operation” against the Emirates, reports WAM.

A human toll that could evolve

The three victims are believed to be two Indian nationals and a Pakistani.

For the moment, we still do not know the state displayed by the six people injured in the explosion of the trucks.
