The major fire in a carpentry shop and other companies in Kehrsatz led to heavy smoke, soot and a stench on Tuesday morning. Alertswiss, the federal alarm app, advised closing windows and doors in the area and driving around the area.

The canton police reported in the afternoon that the fire was under control. However, the follow-up work continued. Around 130 firefighters from the Belp region, Köniz, Thun and Bern are on duty.

The building was completely destroyed in the fire, as an on-site inspection by an SRF reporter shows. One person was examined by an ambulance team with suspected smoke inhalation, but did not have to go to the hospital.

As a media spokesman for the Bernese canton police said, there is no evidence of injured or missing people.

According to the Bern canton police, the first fire report was received at 5:30 a.m. Several fire brigades from the region then moved in.

Again and again sirens sound in reverse when fire engines drove around. The column of smoke rose straight up into the sky and then drifted north-west at a certain height, towards Längenberg.
