Eyebrow transplant – procedure, risks and costs

Hyaluronic acid in the lips, botox in the forehead and under the armpits, made teeth and (meanwhile removed) breast implants. When it comes to beauty interventions, Chrissy Teigen is at the forefront. Also when it comes to reporting in detail about the process in the clinic. Most recently she did this after a transplant – the eyebrows.

Anyone who, like Chrissy earlier, overdone with plucking knows the problem: The hairs only grow back sparsely. Now you can trace, have a microblading done – or pay a visit to a hair transplant clinic to have new hair inserted where the old one used to be. Dr. med. Hannes Domeisen is a Swiss FMH specialist in Oto-Rhino-Laryngology and does just that at the Pilopro Clinic in Rapperswil. In an interview, he reveals what the eyebrow transplant is all about and how it takes place.

“Strictly speaking, the procedure is an eyebrow-hair transplant,” explains the doctor right at the start. “This is done in an outpatient operation with local anesthesia. Hair follicle units are removed from the back or side of the head and transplanted to where they are needed. ”

“Anyone who has lost their eyebrows due to injuries or illnesses, is not satisfied with their shape or wants more fullness, is in good hands with us,” says Dr. med. Dome iron. The most common reason, however, is still the plucking, which affects the eyebrows in the long run. By the way: Anyone who suffers from inflammatory, scarring skin diseases with alopecia or circular hair loss is excluded as a candidate for treatment.

According to Dr. Domeisen, the risk of a hair transplant, whether on the head or the eyebrows, is generally low. “Slight bleeding or inflammation as well as pimple formation are always possible, but can be treated well.”

“It takes about ten days for the hair roots to grow firmly into the skin. The hair itself usually falls out afterwards – but as long as the roots stay in the skin, new hair will come back, ”explains the expert. “After three to four weeks, you can fully exercise again and apply make-up to your brows.” The final assessment, however, only takes place after one year. “Here we see whether everything fits or whether it still needs to be reworked occasionally.”

A few weeks after the procedure, Chrissy Teigen posted an update on her brows. A lot of hair can already be seen.

One piece of information that must not be forgotten: The follicles that are inserted originally come from the scalp. “If the hair grows back once, it has to be trimmed weekly, otherwise it will reach the same length as our main hair,” warns Domeisen. According to the doctor, a little gel or pomade also makes sense: “It is almost impossible for all the roots to be inserted at the same angle. After the treatment, you should therefore take care of your brows and brush them into shape.

“If the treatment is carried out by a doctor, you can expect a price of between 3,000 and 5,000 francs. Depending on how much hair needs to be replenished and how much effort it takes. But the result lasts permanently. “
