Eyeliner trend 2020: this is how we wear it now

Take out the eyeliner, because we wear our eyeliner very differently from now on. And so …

Winged Liner is part of our daily beauty routine for some of us. Sometimes we can even pull it in our sleep – or at least half asleep. However, a new trend is now replacing our beloved eyeliner, at least if we take a look at the looks from Fashion Week.

Smoky & edgy

On the catwalks, for example at the Dior show, we are currently seeing more and more eyeliner with kohl pencil. And no, these are not super accurate, curved lines, but rather slightly smudged, smoky eyeliner. Perfect for everyone who wants and likes it rather imperfect.

In the look for the Spring-Summer 2021 Ready-to-Wear Dior Show, the eye was almost completely framed with an eye pencil. "To create a graphic look, I placed the eyeliner on the upper and lower waterline – but without pulling it outwards at the outer corner. The line is neither too thin nor too thick. That literally frames the eye by intensifying it and make it look a little more dramatic, "explains Peter Philips, Creative and Image Director for Dior Make-up.

The soft version

However, if this look is too blatant for you (which we can understand), you don't have to completely frame the eye. It is sufficient to apply the eyeliner in the outer third of the upper and lower lash line and thus ensure a minimal effect. And anyway: an eyeliner doesn't always have to be black, because it often makes the contrast look very harsh. Brown, dark green or a dark purple can also look really great and special.

If you don't like hard, graphic lines, you can simply blend the eyeliner a little. This works best with a tapered pencil brush or sometimes even with your finger (if the kohl pencil is very creamy). This gives the eye a very soft frame, but it still looks emphasized and expressive. Exactly what we want!
