“Sloppiness that has little to do with technology”

Max Verstappen has won his Formula 1 home game in Zandvoort again. The Red Bull driver celebrated his tenth win of the season at the Dutch Grand Prix on Sunday. Record world champion Lewis Hamilton had chances of winning, but then a safety car came. The international press writes about this:

Great Britain

“Daily Mirror”: “Max Verstappen wins a breathless Dutch Grand Prix while Lewis Hamilton experiences a late nightmare.”

“The Sun”: “It felt like a case of déjà vu. Lewis Hamilton in the lead while chasing behind a safety car – only to be passed by the Red Bull of Max Verstappen, who went on to claim fame to fetch.”

France

“Le Monde”: “The reigning world champion from the Netherlands, who had already been the winner when Formula 1 returned to the North Sea resort’s race track in 2021, delighted an audience that was completely on his side.”

Italy

“Gazzetta dello Sport”: “The Dutchman dominated his home race (also with the help of the safety car) and clinched his tenth victory: the lead is now 109 points. (…) Charles Leclerc is back on the podium after his victory in Austria, more thanks to Mercedes than on our own.”

“La Repubblica”: “Verstappen pulls past confidently at the restart. Not even misfortune can keep up with him. It’s what Ferrari no longer has. It’s the third Sunday in a row that the F1-75 isn’t there and his Saturday’s value revoked. He’s suffering with all tires. A problem that exceeds the mistakes paid this time by Carlos Sainz when the first pit stop was called at the last moment.”

“Corriere della Sera”: “Ferrari in red was powerless to the point that you thought the cavallino (prancing horse) had lost the canter rhythm in the race, that technical panache that makes you think of Red Bull.”

“La Stampa”: “Ferrari has lost its rhythm. In qualifying, it still scurries through, but in the race, the defects appear without a reason or a solution. Sometimes it’s the tires, sometimes it’s the aerodynamics. At Ferrari there is now a fear of going to Monza, for the last race in Europe, and finding yourself there even slower because the Autodromo nazionale (the circuit) will be the home race, but also a damn difficult track for the F1-75.”

“Corriere dello Sport”: “Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc watched helplessly during a pit stop of which modern Formula 1 had previously been few. A form of sloppiness that has little to do with the technology that often tends to do so to suffocate Formula 1 with the veil that covers it more and more.(…) Ferrari is a great car, but Ferrari manages it miserably, because Charles Leclerc’s third place and Carlos Sainz’s eighth place, the for penalized for running over a yellow flag are a far cry from the revenge announced before the race.”

Spain

“El País”: “It’s impossible to stop Max Verstappen – one of the greatest phenomena that Formula 1 has ever produced (…)”.

Austria

“Kurier”: “The Dutchman confidently secured the home GP of Zandvoort, which turned into a huge party in orange.”

Switzerland

“Blick”: “Max Verstappen races to his second world title without stopping.”
