The Meta Group has just unveiled new editing tools based on artificial intelligence for its applications Facebook And Instagram.

Last Thursday, Mark Zuckerberg announced two new features coming to Facebook and Instagram. Wanting to take advantage of the growth in generative AI experienced last year, the Meta group has decided to power its famous applications with new tools: Emu Edit and Emu Video.

These will allow users to edit their photos and produce high-quality videos using text descriptions.

Meta presents Emu Edit for Facebook and Instagram

With Emu Edit, Meta declares that it wants to offer “ a new approach that aims to streamline various image manipulation tasks and bring improved capabilities and precision to image editing “. To achieve this, the group has developed a tool capable of distinctly identifying the different elements making up an image so that you can make the desired modifications.

For example, you can ask Emu Edit to transform a dog into a panda without needing to manually select the section of the image you want to modify. Furthermore, if you want to add text to a particular object without it being modified, this will be perfectly possible.

Emu Video: Meta is making progress with its video-generating AI

The second tool, called Emu Video, gives users the ability to generate videos from text prompts, images, or both. As reported by The Verge, the results offered by the latter are still far from realistic. However, it seems to be a significant step forward compared to “Make-A-Video”, Meta’s AI launched last year.

To obtain better results than in the past, the American company used a somewhat different process. If the videos generated by Make-A-Video required no less than five models, Emu Edit only needs “ two streaming models to generate four-second 512 x 512 videos at 16 frames per second “.

For the moment, we do not yet know when these new editing tools will arrive in Facebook and Instagram. Despite the improvements promised by Meta compared to already existing tools, users can, in the meantime, find interesting alternatives from Adobe’s new AI, or even from the Mountain View firm with Google Photos Magic Editor.
