Facebook competes with its rival, the popular social network TikTok, by launching a new application. Called "Collab", it allows artists from around the world to make music together.

The Covid-19 health crisis has made it possible to rethink art, especially music. During the confinement, many artists shared their compositions on social networks and it seems that this initiative could continue. This effectively paved the way for a whole new way of making music, especially by collaborating with other artists from around the world.

The team for experimenting with new products from Facebook has therefore decided to embark on a new project to enable this type of collaboration. Indeed, the social network has worked on a new application inspired by its rival TikTok, particularly popular among young people today. Baptized "Collab", this new tool will allow users to create short video clips.

The app was originally launched as an invitation-only beta program and only on iOS. It allows users to create short videos divided into three simultaneous sources. According to the American site The Verge, musicians can perform a single song by playing three different instruments and mixing them all together. Three different people can also collaborate, regardless of the distance between them.

According to a spokesperson for Facebook, this application brings together not only professionals but also fans so that they can compose original music videos together. "Digital spaces can connect us when we can't be together in person, and Collab is a new way of creating together", says the press release. "Music is one of the most powerful creative means. With Collab, we are leveraging technology to help users unlock creative superpowers by collaborating on original music videos, from anywhere", can we also read.

The company says thatonce a collab has been created, a user can publish it for others to watch and remix. If you've never tried music, this is an opportunity to get started because Facebook actually specifies that there is no need to be knowledgeable in this area to use "Collab". "With the app, you can create your own arrangement by adding your recording, or swiper, and discover an arrangement to complete your composition", explains the press release. Videos can be shared on Instagram, Facebook Stories or any other social platform.

The application "Collab" is currently an experimental project. If its release has been accelerated, it will only be maintained if it meets with some success with Internet users.
