Facebook becomes meta – and it doesn’t. The name change only affects the company, not the social media platform.

Now there is clarity: Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg (37) said on Thursday (November 28) the exact details of the name change circulated in advance announced. The social media platform will also be called Facebook in the future, only the company will be renamed – from Facebook to Meta.

The chosen name already suggests that the group is now much more than “just” Facebook. The WhatsApp messenger and the Instagram photo and video app are also part of this and will be part of Zuckerberg’s “Metaversum” in addition to the Facebook network. “We are at the beginning of the next chapter for the Internet, and it is also the next chapter for our company,” he says, explaining this decision.

By integrating virtual reality technology, Zuckerberg wants to make content more immersive in the future with his “Metaversum”. For example, by no longer just looking at them, “but also being in them.”
